A B O U T M E
I'm Michael Locher, a designer for the performing arts specializing in scenery for theatre, opera and dance, and I proudly serve as the Director of Design for Houston's Alley Theatre. My work has been mounted in New York City and at regional theaters around the United States, including the Guthrie Theater, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, California Shakespeare Theatre, and St. Louis Rep. I love new works and reexamined classics. I love design which immerses while paying tribute to the theatre itself: ritualized storytelling in a communal space. I served as a professor of theatre for six years, and also on occasion as a graphic designer and illustrator. I'm always learning. A California native, I live with my family in Houston, Texas.
